The Department of Naval Science was added to UMBC’s College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences in 2015 and the UMBC NROTC Program, which it supports, was established to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Naval Sciences program offers courses in leadership, national security policy, U.S. military affairs, and more.
The Department also serves as the home of our NROTC program which offers scholarship opportunities for students in all majors interested in training for leadership positions as U.S. Navy officers in an increasingly technical and globally interconnected environment.
“We are proud to partner with the United States Navy in offering our students avenues of opportunity and future success while embodying its core values of honor, courage, and commitment,” said CNMS Dean William R. LaCourse.
